DC3 Spraying dispersant on BP\Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.  It is outfitted with the Auto Cal II Flow Control System controlling dual Kawak hydraulic pumping systems.  Emergency operation was taken into consideration on the Auto Cal, Basler, and Kawak configuration.  If one of the dual hydraulic systems should fail, the system is still capable of producing the required flow rate.  The aircraft is normally operated with the Auto Cal controlling the flow.  Should the Auto Cal System fail, as any device may, the aircraft is outfitted with an auto/manual switch which allows the pilot to bypass the Auto Cal System and manually adjust the boom pressure as needed.  This feature allows the pilot the ability to complete the job without having to return home filled with the chemicals he took off with.
